Rangers have been extremely busy in the transfer market and Steven Gerrard should make Stuart Dallas his next target after landing Kyle Lafferty.
Northern Irishman Lafferty became Gerrard’s 12th recruit of the summer this week when he moved back to Ibrox from Hearts, six years after initially leaving Glasgow in 2012, and was congratulated on his move by international colleague Dallas.
A quick search through the replies on Dallas’ Twitter post shows a number of Rangers fans cheekily asking if the 27-year-old fancies joining Lafferty at the club and it is certainly something worth exploring in the final weeks of the window.
Currently seeing his action limited due to a thigh strain, Dallas faces a stern challenge to retain his first-team position with Leeds United under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa and could have his head turned by an attractive offer from Rangers.
“We have all got our fingers crossed that it won’t be what we are all fearing. But, if it is, there is a possibility we will have to add again.”
– Gerrard has admitted further signings may be needed due to Murphy’s injury.
Crucially, Gerrard’s side have taken a hit this week following an injury to Jamie Murphy and he admitted his hand could be forced into further activity in the market in the wake of that blow – and Dallas should be top of his short-list.
Dallas was also played mainly as full-back last season and Gerrard could use the prospect of a more attacking role, alongside potential European football, as a carrot to dangle in front of the highly-rated versatile ace.
Interestingly, Dallas is also a Rangers supporter himself and turning down a move to his beloved club may be too much to ask – but negotiating with Bielsa could prove to be Gerrard’s toughest test in management so far.
