Three things to look out for in Rangers v St Johnstone: Can Gerrard’s men maintain the pressure on Celtic

Rangers entertain St Johnstone at Ibrox tomorrow as they look to keep on the tails of Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title.

Steven Gerrard’s men have won four of their last five league games and can’t afford any more blemishes if they are to continue the chase.

The Gers were held to a goalless draw by Kilmarnock last time out in the Scottish Cup and a return to winning ways is a must this weekend.

Here at TBR Football, we looked at three things to look out for in this weekend’s game between Rangers and St Johnstone…

Allan McGregor’s two-match suspension means that Wes Foderingham will likely get the chance to impress on Saturday.

The 28-year-old has played just one league game for Rangers this season and he will be keen to show Gerrard what he is capable of.

Foderingham has been a regular starter for the last three seasons and he will be keen to showcase his talent in McGregor’s absence.

Another man who misses out through suspension this weekend is hotshot Alfredo Morelos.

The Colombian was dismissed against Aberdeen recently and is still banned.

Rangers have either Jermain Defoe or Kyle Lafferty in reserve and it remains to be seen who will get the nod, with both nursing niggles.

Defoe fluffed his lines last week, missing a great chance to secure victory over Kilmarnock, but he is the favourite to get another go here.

Young striker Dapo Mebude has been recalled from international duty and is also in contention.

The Gers have defeated their opponents on Saturday twice already this season.

Those two victories came under far less pressure, however, earlier in the campaign.

With Celtic six points clear of Gerrard’s side they can’t afford any more disappointments now.

It will be interesting to see how Rangers perform when the pressure is on.

With Celtic not in action until Sunday, a win would throw all the impetus back onto their title rivals if they can secure victory at a canter.
