Rangers boss Steven Gerrard suggests he’d like to draw Manchester United in Europa League

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has joked to Goal that he would ‘love to park the bus’ against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Europa League.

The Gers booked their place in the group stages of the competition with a last-gasp victory over Legia Warsaw. With the scores locked at 0-0 and extra-time looming large, Alfredo Morelos planted a header beyond Radoslaw Majecki to send Ibrox into pandemonium.

It is the second time in as many seasons that Gerrard has led his team into the group stages of the Europa League and the ex-Liverpool midfielder would probably relish a reunion with an old foe.

Manchester United finished sixth in the Premier League last season, missing out on Champions League football and Gerrard cheekily suggested that he might fancy a trip to Old Trafford.

He told Goal: “I wouldn’t mind parking the bus at Old Trafford.”

Gerrard was also keen to speak of his joy at securing European football for Rangers once again.

He continued: “There isn’t a prouder man than me in the building. It’s moments like tonight that make me feel so proud and make it feel worthwhile. I’m glad I signed up to it, I wanted nights like this from a personal point of view.

“To see my players celebrating with the 47000 fans at the end, it was an emotional time. I was so proud to be the manager of this club out there.”

TBR Verdict – Battle of Britain would be barnstorming for Rangers

Rangers and Manchester United last drew each other in European competition back in 2010 when the Red Devils had the edge.

After a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, United ensured progression from their group with a 1-0 win which came courtesy of a Wayne Rooney penalty.

Gerrard is doing a grand job at Rangers right now and he would relish the chance to enter battle with his form rivals as a player.

He is far more reserved as a manager and it seems certain that Gerrard will remain calm whoever the Light Blues draw later on.

If they are paired in the same group as Manchester United, however, you can bet the Rangers fans will be absolutely buzzing.
