New Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has spoken of an urgent desire to bring in new recruits ahead of his side’s Scottish Premier League campaign getting underway at the weekend.
Gerrard takes his domestic bow on Sunday afternoon as his side travel to Aberdeen and according to BBC Sport, he is desperate to see some new faces arrive at Ibrox before the big kick-off.
A move for Manchester City central defender Kean Bryan recently fell through and a central defender looks likely to be high on Gerrard’s list of transfer targets, although it is now back to the drawing board as far as signing one before Sunday goes.

One man who could be a shrewd piece of business for Gerrard to consider is free agent Gareth McAuley, who is without a club following his departure from West Bromwich Albion at the end of last season.
The veteran defender played just nine times last season for the Baggies but there is very little to doubt that the 38-year-old could do a job in the Scottish Premier League.
“You can see quite clearly that we need a centre-back so that is definitely an area that we are trying to add in. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.”
Although McAuley doesn’t possess a great deal of pace these days, it is safe to say that his experience would be a massive asset for the younger players at Rangers and his signing would represent a smart one by Gerrard.
It would remain to be seen whether the Northern Ireland international would welcome a move to Scotland at this stage of his career, although the chance to continue playing at such a massive club would surely represent a big incentive for McAuley to consider as he weighs up whether or not to continue his club career.
