Rangers star Jordan Jones desperate to rid himself of Celtic demons on Saturday

Jordan Jones has told the Daily Record he is desperate to play for Rangers on Saturday afternoon at Parkhead as Steven Gerrard’s men take on Celtic, as the Northern Irish winger looks to redeem himself following his last outing against the Hoops.

Jones, 25, only played in one of Rangers’ three Old Firm games with Celtic last season after joining the club from Kilmarnock. He was shown a straight red card for a horrendous tackle on Moritz Bauer, and injured himself in the process.

It saw Jones fail to play for almost five months – limiting him to just 15 appearances in all competitions for Rangers last term. This season, though, Jones has finally regained his place in the side and has started the last two league games for the Gers.

Indeed, the former Middlesbrough man even scored his first Rangers goal during a 5-1 win over Motherwell towards the end of September. He could start against Celtic, and is desperate to do so in order to redeem himself following his last Old Firm outing.

“I’d love to be involved. Obviously my last Old Firm wasn’t the best memory so I’d really like an opportunity to change that experience and change it into a positive one,” Jones said. “We have to see what happens.”

TBR’s view – Should Jones start?

It is a tricky one. He has started the last two matches for Rangers, even starting over Ianis Hagi last time out. Scott Arfield has improved his form from central midfield, while Joe Aribo remains a doubt with injury.

So, for Gerrard, he must decide whether to throw Jones in at the deep end or bring in Hagi. Hagi is clearly the better player when both are firing on all cylinders, but Jones seems to be in better form at the moment. Saturday will tell all.
