Rangers star asked if he congratulated Celtic stars on title win

Borna Barisic has told Croatian outlet Sportske if he congratulated Celtic duo Filip Benkovic and Jozo Simunovic after the Hoops beat Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title – and his response is hardly surprising.

The 26-year-old has endured a frustrating first campaign at Ibrox, since completing a £2.2million (Daily Record) to Glasgow from Croatian side NK Osijek – Rangers’ Europa League qualifying opponents.

Constant injuries and a lack of momentum has seen Barisic manage only 21 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side. But he has won back his place in the Croatia national team.

Barisic was asked if he had congratulated his fellow countrymen in Benkovic and Simunovic, as the Hoops earned their eighth consecutive Scottish Premiership title on Saturday – to which he responded with a definite no.

“No, I did not congratulate them on winning the Scottish Premiership,” Barisic said.I did not even congratulate Jozo Simunovic on his goal against Aberdeen.”

TBR’s view – keep or sell?

Barisic has certainly not lived up to his price tag, but there is certainly potential there – especially given that Croatia see so much promise in him.

Likely to be on a big wage, Gerrard needs to see consistency next season. If Barisic is to have any kind of future, next season must be an enormous improvement – or it is curtains for the defender.
