Alfredo Morelos has posted a rallying call on Instagram after scoring a brace to push Rangers into the League Cup final, as Steven Gerrard’s side eased past Hearts with a 3-0 win at Hampden Park.
Morelos, 23, took his tally to a whopping 20 goals in 24 league and cup appearances this season – and his form has been absolutely pivotal in finally pushing the Gers into a cup final, the first since they returned to the top flight.
The Colombia international’s cross gave Rangers the lead, as Filip Helander tapped a low cross home after losing his marker. The striker then turned home James Tavernier’s low cross early in the second half with a neat finish.
Ryan Kent was also excellent throughout and he laid on a superb assist for Morelos, who made it three two excellent touches. Despite claiming he could leave in January, Morelos posted a rallying call ahead of a final against Celtic on December 8.
His post is translated as: “Nice victory, let’s go for more.”
TBR’s view – Keeping Morelos in January just as important as silverware
Morelos’ comments to Radio Blu last week include the Colombian as saying that if a team comes in for him in January, that play in a bigger league, then he will be interested in leaving Rangers.
But if Rangers are to stop Celtic from winning nine in a row or indeed reaching the landmark 10 in a row, then Steven Gerrard has to keep Morelos at the club beyond January at the very least.
Losing the striker before the winter window would be an enormous loss – but the chances are that an offer of £20million or more is likely to see the former HJK Helsinki striker depart.
