Rangers shouldn’t stand in Wallace’s way of a move to Bristol City this month

Rangers defender Lee Wallace is wanted by Championship outfit Bristol City, according to the Scottish Sun.

Robins manager Lee Johnson had his side in the play-off picture for much of last season but he has been unable to repeat the trick this time around.

That has led him to seek reinforcements and given that the club do not have the spending power of some of the division’s big hitters, he has looked for value north of the border.

Wallace is reportedly top of his January wishlist, offering the defender a route away from Ibrox, where he has slipped right out of contention under Steven Gerrard.

Wallace was once captain of the club but his stock has fallen in recent times and he is now behind Borna Barisic and Jon Flanagan in the pecking order at left back.

There has been no suggestion from Gerrard that Wallace has provided a problem in the dressing room, but sometimes it reaches a point where it is better for all concerned to have a clean break.

That would allow Wallace to resurrect his own career and offer up another spot on the wage bill for Gerrard to bring in a much-needed body who can help the club sustain their developing title push.
