Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is in the market for a new creative midfielder this January.
And according to various reports, Everton youngster Kieran Dowell and Southampton veteran Steven Davis are on his wish-list.
The Scottish Sun reports that Rangers are closing in on Davis after Southampton gave him the green light to leave the club on a free transfer this January.
But even if Rangers land the Northern Ireland international, this should not put them off moving for Dowell.
The Mirror claims that Rangers are chasing a loan deal for Everton starlet Dowell.
The 21-year-old is an attacking midfielder but he has struggled to break into Marco Silva’s plans this term.

Dowell has just two cup appearances to his name for the Toffees this season so a loan spell could help his career.
At Nottingham Forest last season, the England under-21 international scored nine goals and registered four assists in the Championship.
Dowell has the potential to make it at Premier League level but he needs to be playing at such a vital stage of his career.
A loan move to the Gers would be beneficial for all parties and it shouldn’t be a case of Davis or Dowell for Gerrard.
Rangers could potentially land Davis and Dowell, bringing in a mix of experience and youth without spending a penny on transfer fees.
