Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty has been enjoying a successful season away from the club on loan.
Last summer, Steven Gerrard decided that Docherty did not have an immediate role to play in his side.
So he sent the young midfielder to League One side Shrewsbury Town on loan until the end of the season.
But the 22-year-old has been so impressive that Rangers have considered recalling him.
Now Gerrard has three options during this month: let him stay at Shrewsbury, recall him or send him on loan to another team.
For the sake of testing whether he is ready for Rangers next season, a move to the Championship could be the best option.
According to reliable journalist Alan Nixon, there are Championship sides interested in the Scotland under-21 international.
If these Championship teams firm up their interest with firm loan bids for Docherty, this is something Rangers seriously need to consider.
There is an argument for keeping him at Shrewsbury, where he is starring in midfield with seven goals in 28 games.
But the Rangers starlet needs to prove to Gerrard that he can break into the Rangers side next season.
With Lassana Coulibaly’s loan ending in the summer, Docherty will be eyeing that vacancy in central midfield.
If he impresses in the Championship, then Docherty will show Gerrard he is good enough to make the grade at Ibrox.
