Rangers should rekindle reported interest in available Jordan Rhodes

Last year Rangers found themselves linked with a move for Scotland international Jordan Rhodes. As reported by the Yorkshire Post, Steven Gerrard was considering a swoop to bring Rhodes to Ibrox last summer.

No deal ever materialised for the player. Instead, Sheffield Wednesday managed to offload him to Norwich City. Rhodes went on to help the Canaries secure promotion to the Premier League. However, with Norwich signing Swiss international Josip Drmic this summer, a permanent move looks unlikely.

Rhodes is still being offered to plenty of clubs this summer. As reported by West London Sport, he has been offered to ex-Rangers boss Mark Warburton at QPR.

But should Rangers be keeping an eye on proceedings?

With Kyle Lafferty set to depart, the club have just Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe at their disposal. Considering the latter’s age and the former’s disciplinary record and transfer interest, a third option seems wise for Rangers.

Rhodes, who has scored over 200 goals in the Football League, could be a perfect option as Rangers hope to embark on a busy domestic and European campaign next season.

The Ibrox club would certainly have to do some shrewd negotiating to get his wages and any potential transfer fee down to an acceptable level. But the lure of playing at Ibrox would surely be enough to convince Rhodes to take a pay-cut and head to Glasgow.

If Rangers are looking for a third option in attack, then Rhodes could be the perfect player.
