Rangers should be boosted in their pursuit of Kieran Dowell

Rangers have been linked with a move for Everton playmaker Kieran Dowell in January.

According to the Mirror, Steven Gerrard’s side are keen on taking the midfielder on loan in the New Year.

The 21-year-old has been on the fringes at Goodison Park this campaign and his only two first-team appearances have come in the Carabao Cup.

Rangers should now step up interest in the 21-year-old and it looks like they would have a good chance of bringing him to Ibrox.

Everton’s director of football Marcel Brands has confirmed that there is a strong possibility that Dowell will leave on loan in January if they find the right suitor.

“I spoke to them (Dowell and Mason Holgate) both and we are looking to see if there is a good possibility for them to go on loan, then we will consider it,” Brands told the Liverpool Echo.

Dowell’s signature on loan looks there for the taking and Gerrard should be chasing a deal.

The attacking midfielder would give the Gers some extra flair in the final third and he proved his qualities by scoring 10 goals in 43 appearances for Nottingham Forest during a loan spell last season.

He’s not quite at the level required to break into Marco Silva’s Everton, but there is massive potential and the playmaker has a good shot of ripping up Scotland in Gerrard’s team.

Brands’ confirmation about a potential Dowell loan is huge and Rangers need to get to the front of what will be an inevitable queue.
