Report: Rangers handed £12m blow as Liverpool boss rules out Ryan Kent loan

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has seemingly dealt Steven Gerrard a major blow and closed the door on Rangers re-signing Ryan Kent on loan during this transfer window.

Speaking after the Reds were thumped 3-0 by Napoli at Murrayfield, the German appeared to end speculation regarding a loan move back to Ibrox.

Kent was a revelation for the Gers last season.

He netted six goals and created nine assists for the Teddy Bears and adhered himself to the club’s supporters in the process.

Gerrard had hoped to receive a green light to make another loan move, with Kent valued at £12 million by Liverpool (Liverpool Echo).

Speaking on Kent, Klopp told the Daily Record: “The time is over, I think, for loans, because of his age.

“The players need to find a place where they can settle. A loan is not an option.”

TBR Verdict

This news is a blow to Rangers but Steven Gerrard shouldn’t lose too much sleep over it.

He has recruited well during the summer and Sheyi Ojo looks like being a big player for the Gers during 2019/20.

Re-signing Kent isn’t the be-all and end-all and Gerrard hasn’t dwelled on his potential arrival during the summer. Luckily.

Rangers almost certainly won’t be spending £12 million on any player this summer and that gives other clubs the edge over landing Kent.

Whilst it is a blow, the challenge for Gerrard is now to work with the players he does have and put this potential addition to bed.
