Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will pay a visit to Liverpool in an attempt to thrash out a deal for Ryan Kent, according to the print edition of The Sun (14/04, p61)

The winger has been mightily impressive for the Light Blues this season, bagging six goals and contributing nine assists in all competitions.

At 22-years-old Kent is seemingly set for a bright future in the game and Gerrard would like to keep him at Ibrox. Whether that is possible could be determined by any potential plans Liverpool have to give him an opportunity in the Premier League.

Previously it has been reported in the Liverpool Echo that the Reds want more than £12 million for Kent. That valuation would almost certainly rule out Rangers but Gerrard looks to be undeterred in his attempts.

Today’s report in The Sun also indicates that Premier League clubs have already enquired about Kent too.

TBR Verdict

If Rangers are to break Celtic’s stranglehold on dominance in Scottish football then Kent is exactly the sort of player they should be attracting.

The 22-year-old has been really impressive for the Gers this season he has adhered himself to the club’s loyal supporters.

Gerrard clearly recognises Kent’s quality and is desperate to keep him at Ibrox next season.

If Liverpool do have plans for their academy graduate then he would have to be registered as one of their 25-man squad given that he is over 21. That might work in Rangers’ favour as they may not want to waste a squad place on a player who will only be used sparingly.
