Greg Docherty is hoping that his performances on loan at Shrewsbury Town are catching Steven Gerrard’s eye ahead of next season.

The Scotland under-21 midfielder told The Shropshire Star: “I’ve spoken to him and he wants me to keep on improving. He’s happy with how things are progressing and goals are a crucial thing in that.”

The 22-year-old scored his eighth goal of the season last weekend, against Premier League side Wolves.

Gerrard has dismissed Southampton’s interest in Rangers captain James Tavernier, The Daily Mail reports.

The 27-year-old was reportedly a target for the Saints to replace Cedric Soares with Rangers rating the right-back at £8m, as per The Express.

But when asked whether Southampton were interested in Tavernier, Gerrard said (via Daily Mail): “They’re not. We made a call on it this morning and they’re not.”

Gerrard also believes that star striker Alfredo Morelos will remain at Ibrox beyond January, The Daily Mail reports.

The 22-year-old netted his 21st goal of the season in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Livingston so interest in his services is inevitable.

But Gerrard is confident that Rangers can keep the Colombia international and he said (via Daily Mail): “I think there will be talk of [James Tavernier] and talk of Alfredo but the reality is there hasn’t been a solid bid for any of our players so far.”
