Europa omissions

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has selected his squad for this year’s Europa League competition and there are a couple of notable absentees.

via The Scotsman, the Liverpool legend has decided to omit Jordan Rossiter and Lee Wallace.

It is certainly a surprise that both have missed out.

Rossiter has had his injury problems but was said to have stood out in pre-season, and Wallace was the club captain until this summer.

Wallace is still in dispute with the club over last season’s clash with Graeme Murty, but the acquisitions of Jon Flanagan and Borna Barisic is likely the reason he’s been left out.

Docherty on Gerrard

Greg Docherty completed a loan move to Shrewsbury Town last month.

The midfielder was deemed surplus to requirements by Gerrard.

That came as a surprise to most, but Docherty is keen to prove himself at New Meadow.

On the Gers boss, as quoted by the Daily Record, Docherty said: “He’s told me he’ll be watching and there’ll be people to see me. Everything I do will be reported back.

“He said it’s not, ‘Greg is going out the picture’, it was that he’s still looking at me and I’m still part of his long-term plans.

He’s allowed me to push on here, express myself and help me develop.

“Right away he was very open and approachable. I think it’s going to be a successful year for Rangers and he’s got a good career in management ahead of him.”

Grezda ‘world class’?

Rangers recently completed the signing of Albania international Eros Grezda from NK Osijek.

There has been plenty of hype around the winger.

He didn’t make the squad for the Old Firm Derby but is expected to feature against Dundee.

Albanian legend Alban Bushi reckons Grezda has what it takes to go to the very top.

As reported by the Express, he said of his fellow countryman: “When you look at just how talented Grezda is, we all expected him to move to a bigger stage than at Rangers

“He’s a player who can be world class.

“But I am sure he will be able to quickly prove himself at Rangers knowing his qualities.

“He will make a big impact.”
