Whether a takeover materialises this summer or not, Newcastle United are expected to be in the market for a new striker after a difficult first season for Joelinton – and a new report has got to swing the Toon into action.
The Brazilian has managed just two Premier League goals since his £40million move from Hoffenheim – the first of which came in August and the second only this month against Sheffield United.
Needless to say, that is not a good enough rate for Steve Bruce’s side. Andy Carroll is set to remain, but Newcastle need a talismanic striker that can score goals on a regular basis – like Salomon Rondon did in 2018-19.
Now, Newcastle and Bruce can sign a reported target – if the latest reports are to be believed. The Daily Mail claim Qatar side Al-Duhail are keen on Rangers goal machine Alfredo Morelos, after he scored 29 goals last season.
The 24-year-old is likely to leave Ibrox this summer, and the Mail’s report claims Rangers are willing to cash in on the South American if offers worth just £15million are tabled in the coming months.
The Chronicle claimed last week that Morelos remained a target for Newcastle United going into the 2020-21 campaign. So, with Morelos available at just £15million, surely it is a no-brainer?
Signing a goalscoring striker with aerial ability, pace, strength and tenacity is likely to set top-tier clubs back quite a fee these days – and Newcastle know best, when they paid a club-record fee for Joelinton.
But to have the chance to sign Morelos for just £15million is unbelievable business.
