Rangers’s hopes of signing Krystiyan Malinov appear to have received a boost, with the Evening Times reporting that an Ibrox move sits high on the midfielder’s list of potential options this summer.

Steven Gerrard is looking to make the additions that will see Rangers overtake Celtic this coming season. And it appears that Malinov is one name on his radar.

However, it appears that Rangers are, by no means, the only side interested in the 26-year-old.

The Evening Times claims that Vitesse, VVV Venlo, KV Mechelen and Standard Liege have all been linked with the Bulgaria international. Meanwhile, clubs in Turkey and Germany are also interested.

However, the Gers appear to be in a promising position as things stand.

The Evening Times reports that a potential Rangers move sits high on his list of options. It is also claimed by a source close to the player that he would love to work with Gerrard.

TBR View: Rangers’s biggest strength may be getting stronger

There looks to be a couple of areas that Gerrard cannot afford to not strengthen this summer if Rangers are going to catch Celtic.

Midfield however, arguably does not appear to be one of them.

Signing Malinov therefore, would be a major statement from Rangers.

He has predominantly played as a holding midfielder for CSKA Sofia this season. But he is also capable of pushing further forward and has even made one appearance out on the left wing this past term.

It would be a big boost for the Gers to land Malinov, it seems. And while there looks to be much work to do – with so many clubs interested – Rangers appear to be in a strong position, based on the latest reports.
