Rangers are reportedly interested in a move for goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann from German top-flight club Hertha Berlin.

According to the Scottish Sun, the Gers are planning a swoop for the 22-year-old colossus this summer.

It is understood the Light Blues are on the lookout for a new shot-stopper to back-up Allan McGregor next season, as both Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick are set to exit Ibrox.

The report details that Rangers have watched 6ft 4in ace Klinsmann in action for Hertha Berlin’s reserves in the fourth-tier of German football.

His contract with the Bundesliga outfit expires at the end of the season and he’s grown frustrated over a lack of first-team opportunities.

He’s only ever made one senior appearance for Hertha Berlin, while he’s represented USA at international level up to the Under-23s age group.

TBR’s View:

Rangers need a second-choice goalkeeper for next season and Klinsmann could be a great target for the Scottish giants.

They already have a safe pair of hands in the shape of McGregor in net and the veteran has been a rock for Steven Gerrard’s team over the last year.

But the Gers play a lot of games over the course of the season and they could offer Klinsmann a lot more chances of first-team football.

He would be a fairly low risk signing and at his age could be a great understudy to McGregor.
