Rangers promotion hero Jason Holt training with Livingston following Ibrox release

Whilst Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will be looking to bring in plenty of players to Ibrox this summer, he is also trying to trim the fat.

The first step in that process happened back in May when the Scottish league was officially terminated due to the global health crisis.

Rangers released Andy Halliday, Wes Foderingham, Jon Flanagan, Jordan Rossiter, and Jak Alnwick were all moved on, as was Jason Holt.

Holt was first transfer-listed by Steven Gerrard back in 2018 but went on to spend time on loan with both Fleetwood Town and St Johnstone before finally exiting Ibrox permanently.

Now a free agent, it has emerged he is training with Livingston with the hope of earning a contract with Rangers; Premiership rivals.

As reported by The Courier, Holt is training with the club, and whilst manager Gary Holt suggested it was just to stay fit, he did not rule out the possibility of a contract being on the table.

“I don’t know if there is a chance for a deal because we haven’t spoken about it – we have just given him the opportunity to be part of the group.

“There is nothing worse than being on your own. You want to be playing with the ball in a group.

“We will see what’s what – but we know where he is and he knows where we are. So we will wait and see.”

No Rangers fan will begrudge Holt a decent move this summer.

The 27-year-old was a vital member of the Rangers team that got the club back into the Premiership and for that he will always have a place reserved for him in the hearts of Rangers fans.

Rangers supporters will just hope he does not end up coming back to haunt them.
