Rangers take on St. Johnstone tomorrow night looking to continue their strong start to the 2020/21 campaign. The Gers haven’t conceded a goal yet having won both of their games so far this season.
Steven Gerrard will be on a mission this season to end Celtic’s dominance and ensure Neil Lennon doesn’t get his hands on title number 10 in succession.
Rangers were solid and resolute against Aberdeen in the curtain-raiser and comfortably disposed of St. Mirren in Sunday’s contest.
Ahead of this evening’s game, we took a look at how Gerrard might line-up his team to face Callum Davidson’s team.
In goal and back four
After keeping two consecutive clean sheets it seems likely that changes will be kept to a minimum at the back.
Jon McLaughlin has been in decent form during his opening two games and now looks ahead of Allan McGregor in the pecking order.
James Tavernier will keep his place at right-back with Borna Barisic occupying the left-back slot.
Leon Balogun has been tremendous in the first two games and should partner Connor Goldson at centre-back.
The engine room
Glen Kamara and Ryan Jack played on Sunday in the middle of the park, with a Joe Aribo joining them as a three for the game against Aberdeen.
Kamara and Jack should start together once again this evening as the two look to build up a strong rapport together.
Scott Arfield will push for a place in the team too but on current form the Rangers central midfield picks itself.
Kemar Roofe is available for selection following his move from Anderlecht, whilst Cedric Itten has also recently signed, coming off the bench at the weekend.
Alfredo Morelos did bag twice at the weekend but amid interest from elsewhere, Gerrard might choose to hand Roofe the chance to shine.
It would be no surprise to see the Colombian play, of course, but a favourable game against St. Johnstone could prove an ideal one for the £4.5m signing Roofe to start.
On the flanks, Aribo should start on one side, with Ryan Kent on the other. Ianis Hagi should once again feature as the No.10 in Gerrard’s team.
Here is how Rangers could line-up this evening:
