Rangers predicted XI tonight: Steven Gerrard drops summer signing, 42-cap international starts

Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will look to steer his Ibrox boys closer to the group stages of the Europa League tonight.

The Light Blues dropped points in the Premiership last time out so they’ll be looking to put in a much-improved performance in a competition they’ve done well in recently.

Rangers ran out 5-0 winners away at Lincoln Red Imps a week ago and were rewarded with a trip to Dutch side Willem II, who overcame Progres Niederkorn by the same scoreline.

With Jon McLaughlin stuttering in the weekend game, 42-cap Scotland international Allan McGregor – who played in Gibraltar – could get the nod in between the sticks over the summer arrival.

The Rangers defence is unlikely to see any changes, particularly with Leon Balogun not having travelled – expect James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Borna Barisic to start.

Gerrard recently hinted that Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Scott Arfield would make up the midfield for the foreseeable future, with Joe Aribo and Ryan Jack both sidelined.

Although Jack has travelled with the squad to the Netherlands, the Rangers boss is unlikely to deviate from the aforementioned trio.

With Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi notching an assist each against Hibs, they’re likely to continue in the Rangers front line.

Alfredo Morelos, meanwhile, is likely to get the nod over Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe after netting three times in his last two appearances.

Rangers predicted XI (4-3-3): McGregor; Tavernier, Goldson, Helander, Barisic; Davies, Kamara, Arfield; Hagi, Morelos, Kent
