Rangers’ poor away form will undermine title push unless they swiftly improve

Rangers slipped to defeat in their huge midweek match against title-chasers Kilmarnock this weekend and head to Livingston looking to avoid a second defeat of the season at the Almondvale Stadium.

The Gers also lost there last term, and Steven Gerrard has not overseen enough improvement in his side’s away form to support a title push.

Gerrard has done some outstanding work with Rangers but they have also dropped 17 points in their 11 league games on the road under his management, and that is threatening to derail their hopes of battling Celtic for the title.

Rangers know they cannot afford to drop many more points and they appear to struggle on the road against home sides who are happy to sit in and let them have the ball.

They struggle to break those kinds of sides down, just as they did against Kilmarnock, and skipper James Tavernier has now acknowledged that there is no room for error any more.

He said: “We said before the Kilmarnock game and the second half of the season that we could not afford to drop points. We can’t afford to drop any more. We’ve got to expect Celtic to win every game, so what we can do is win every game going forward.”

The most noticeable room for improvement has come on the road and Rangers must address that – starting against Livingston – or their dreams of wrestling the title back off Celtic will need to be shelved for another year.
