By far Rangers’ most impressive result of the season was the 2-2 draw they earned against Villarreal in their most recent European away game.
Tonight, they travel to face Spartak Moscow, looking to extend that European unbeaten run to 12 games and the second half of that match against the Yellow Submarine showed exactly how they can do it.
In the opening period, Steven Gerrard’s side were too meek and were fortunate to go in just the one goal down at half-time, but were transformed after the interval.
They returned with much more gusto and they must replicate that performance across the 90 minutes if they are to get a similarly impressive result from yet another tricky away European trip.
Rangers are at their best when they play at high speed and even though they may be unable to set the tempo throughout the duration of the match tonight, they must attack with intensity when the opportunities present themselves.
Celtic have got themselves into a rut where they are too timid, too scared to play on the road in Europe but Rangers cannot afford to follow suit.
Gerrard’s players must show boldness to manipulate the ball and use it well. If they do that, another strong European result on the road awaits.
