Rangers must rekindle interest in lapsed goal-machine Andre Gray this summer – TBR View

Rangers could find themselves dangerously short in the striking department this season, if Steven Gerrard cannot hang on to star man Alfredo Morelos.

The 29-goal forward is being linked with several moves away from Ibrox that would leave Rangers with just Jermain Defoe as a recognised striker.

It is a problem Gerrard is clearly trying to alleviate, with the Rangers boss already making clear his intentions to bring another frontman to Ibrox this summer.

Plenty of names have already been linked with a potential move to Rangers this summer. The likes of Terem Moffi, Lyle Taylor, Lydon Dykes, and Kemar Roofe all immediately spring to mind.

But if Rangers want a genuine menace in front of goal, then they should look back on a potential transfer target from last year.

Last April, it was reported by The Herald that Rangers were ready to launch a loan bid for Watford striker Andre Gray.

Gray, who once cost Watford a reported (The Mirror) £18 million, was struggling for first-team football at Vicarage Road and Rangers were considering a move for his services if Morelos left the club 12 months ago.

The Colombian stuck around and Rangers were therefore out of the race.

Now, Gray would seem an important acquisition, especially if Morelos does force an Ibrox exit.

With Watford suffering relegation, Gray could easily be one player the Hornets want off the wage bill and Rangers would be lucky to snap him up.

Whilst Gray has only scored 16 goals over the course of the past three seasons he was previously a demon in front of goal during spells at Burnley, Brentford and Luton Town.

The 29-year-old would arrive hungry to prove a point and Rangers would hope he can find some of the form that once earned him such a massive price-tag.
