Last night saw Rangers depart their 0-0 draw with Spartak Moscow disappointed that they missed the chance to go clear at the top of their Europa League group.
But it did see Steven Gerrard oversee an 11th European game of the season without defeat, breaking a club record that has stood since 1993.
That Rangers are doing so well on the continent and still feel that more is to come indicates just how far they have come since they suffered one of the worst results in the club’s history last season.
The Gers crashed out of the 2017-18 Europa League last July after a 2-1 aggregate defeat to Luxembourg minnows Progres Niederkorn.

That Gerrard can set a club record and view it as merely a ‘bonus’ a little over a year after such an aberration in the same competition is a huge indicator of the progress the Light Blues have made under his leadership.
There is absolutely no reason to believe that the club cannot keep it going and qualify for the knockout rounds; which would maintain the feel-good factor that is around Ibrox right now.
Add that to the fact that the club has the opportunity to qualify for a domestic cup final this weekend against Aberdeen, the start to Gerrard’s reign, especially given where he took the club from, has been a success.
