Shrewsbury Town midfielder Greg Docherty, on loan from Rangers, scored his fourth goal of the season last night.

In a 3-1 win over high-flying Barnsley, Docherty’s goal got the ball rolling for Shrewsbury.

The young midfielder netted after just two minutes, drilling home from inside the box.

It was the 22-year-old’s fourth goal of the campaign since making the summer switch from Rangers on a temporary deal.

Docherty was sent out on loan this summer with Steven Gerrard not finding an immediate place for him at Ibrox.

But he has proven a point so far with some top performances for the Shrews.

The central midfielder is battling well in the middle of the park for the League One side and is also getting forward to good effect.

Docherty is showing another side to his game – one that Rangers fans might not be familiar with.

The Scotland under-21 international scored eight times in 108 appearances for Hamilton Academical and failed to find the net in 14 games for Rangers prior to this season.

But he is showing that he has added a goal threat to his game.

The young Scotsman will be desperate to return to Rangers at the end of the season and learn from Gerrard.

And his displays in a Shrewsbury shirt have surely caught the eye of the Gers manager.
