Rangers reportedly met with Swedish winger Alexander Kacaniklic in the January transfer window, and he would have been an amazing signing for the Gers.

The 27-year-old left French club Nantes on a free transfer in February and chose to join Swedish side Hammarby. Bu the 19-time Sweden international could have moved to Ibrox.

Swedish side FotbollDirekt claim that the former Fulham, Watford and Burnley winger met with Rangers in January. The report claims he even travelled to Glasgow for talks.

However, a deal could not be agreed between the Swede and Rangers. Steven Gerrard will know the talented wide man well, after spending three years in Liverpool’s Under-18 and Under-23 side between 2007 and 2010.

Rangers have options out wide. Daniel Candeias is in excellent form, while Ryan Kent continues to thrive. However, Kent is only on loan at Ibrox and Jamie Murphy is still some way from returning to first-team football.

Glenn Middleton’s breakthrough has stuttered so adding more depth out wide would have been important. But for Rangers to have signed Kacaniklic, they would have added a player capable of taking Rangers to another level.

Renowned for his skill, eye for goal and the ability to score from long range, Kacaniklic is a player. In 47 Premier League appearances, he has had a hand in 12 goals – scoring five and creating seven. He started 33 of those.

Skill, goals and on a free transfer. Kacaniklic would have been a wonderful January signing for Rangers, instead he is sure to tear it up in his home country.
