Rangers may have a great new talent, but not the new Jadon Sancho

It appears Rangers have strengthened their youth ranks this week. As reported by the Scottish Sun, the Glasgow club have signed Kane Ritchie-Holster. The 16-year-old forward will arrive in the summer and Steven Gerrard will have another top young talent in the ranks to keep an eye on.

Of course, an immediate reaction to make might be to compare the Rangers newbie to another former City talent who left for better first-team opportunities. Jadon Sancho did the same thing at just 17-years-old and is now a star at Borussia Dortmund and an England international.

But Rangers fans must not expect the ‘next Sancho’.

First of all, the pedigree is not yet there. Sancho was already starring for the England under-17 side and had teams across Europe envious at City’s ability to snap him up from Watford.

Ritchie-Holster has not been making the same sort of inroads.

Sancho is a special talent but what Rangers have is a moldable chunk of clay. There is immense talent with the youngster but Rangers will need to continue progressing him to eventually make him a first-team option. That could be in four or five years time.

If Rangers can do just that, then they could have a good addition on their hands.
