Rangers are looking for a new manager after Steven Gerrard move to Aston Villa from Ibrox – and Ross McCormack has urged the club to avoid bringing in Graeme Murty, with a brutal Instagram post.
Gerrard, 41, has opted to leave Rangers in the middle of the 2021-22 season. Despite the Gers sitting in first place, Gerrard has decided to pen a three-and-a-half-year deal at ambitious Villa.
The Liverpool legend will be tasked with keeping Villa in the division and fighting for the top half of the table. He will have to get Villa’s under-performing stars firing again, and quickly ahead of the busy Christmas schedule.
Meanwhile, Rangers will have to look for a new manager. Giovani van Bronckhorst has emerged as the front runner for the job, while others such as Frank Lampard and Russell Martin are linked.
McCormack – who has played for both Rangers and Villa – took to Instagram. He warned Rangers, with a two-word Instagram post, not to appoint Murty on an interim basis, again.

McCormack on Murty: Harsh verdict on Rangers coach
Now head of youth development at Rangers, Murty has spent two spells in charge of the Gers. Firstly, in 2017, in between Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha for six matches.
Then, Murty took over again after Caixinha’s sacking. He did such a good stint in his second caretaker spell, that he earned the job permanently. He clocked up a further 29 matches, winning 18.
But he lost his job just four months after being handed the permanent role. While McCormack’s verdict might be somewhat harsh, it is vital get a permanent manager who can continue Gerrard’s work.
