A report from The Mail claims Rangers held more talks with Gio van Bronckhorst on Wednesday evening – with only one more obstacle in place.
Van Bronckhorst, 46, is set to be named as Steven Gerrard’s replacement at Ibrox. It will see him return to Rangers, 20 years after leaving as a player.
Talks were held over the weekend, before a team jetted out from Ibrox to The Netherlands to meet with van Bronckhorst on Tuesday.
Now, a report states that more talks were held on Wednesday – and the Dutchman could be appointed by the close of play on Thursday.
The only obstacle that remains, which was discussed on Wednesday, is the identity of his backroom staff. Jean-Paul van Gastel is an option.
However, reports state that Guangzhou City might prevent the exit of their current manager to join van Bronckhorst at Rangers. Time will tell.

Van Bronckhorst to Rangers: Does lack of staff prevent appointment?
It might not do. Rangers need a manager, that is first and foremost ahead of this weekend’s Scottish League Cup semi-final against Hibernian.
But what is slightly halting a deal currently is the lack of backroom staff – or readily-available options at this mid-point in the 2021-22 campaign.
Van Bronckhorst and Rangers will have to find a compromise, and that compromise could be that he is appointed without a backroom staff.
The likes of Jermain Defoe, David McCallum and Brian Gilmour are taking the side ahead of Sunday. They could help van Bronckhorst initially.
Rangers could appoint the Dutchman, and the likes of Defoe help out until the backroom staff van Bronckhorst wants become available.
