Florian Kamberi has told Swiss outlet Blick that he wants to stay at Rangers beyond his loan spell, while he also admitted that he was disappointed to miss out on the chance to play in the Old Firm.

Kamberi has made an incredibly positive impact since arriving at Ibrox on loan during the January transfer window.

The striker has actually only scored one goal for Steven Gerrard’s men. But, having come off the bench on a number of occasions, he has managed to change games and provide a spark that the Gers have sometimes lacked in the first-half.

You could certainly understand why plenty of Rangers fans may be hoping to see a permanent deal for the 25-year-old go through this summer.

And Kamberi suggested that he is also hoping that an agreement can be reached once his loan spell concludes.

“I really want to stay here long term,” he told Blick.

“Playing in front of 50,000 fans every other week is just awesome.”

Kamberi looked set to be a key man for Rangers in the Old Firm game that was next on Gerrard’s men’s radar before the season was stopped.

The striker was superb after coming on against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League days before. And with Alfredo Morelos struggling, some may have been hoping to see Kamberi promoted to the starting lineup against Celtic.

We may never know if Kamberi would have got a chance to start at Parkhead. But the forward has admitted that it was tough to find out that the game would not take place.

“It would have been the biggest game in my career. I think I would have played in my Old Firm game from the start,” he added.

“Obviously, the postponement has really annoyed me, but now there are more important things than football.”

Of course, there is still plenty of football still to play this season. And that may have implications for Rangers’s summer plans.

But based on the start he has made, it would be no surprise to see the Gers look to make Kamberi’s deal permanent once the campaign concludes.

And judging by his comments, Kamberi may not need much convincing to stay at Ibrox.
