A player linked with Glasgow Rangers gave a scout “goosebumps”, has been tipped for stardom and idolises Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard – and he could be on the move this summer.

Liverpool academy graduate Pedro Chirivella has reportedly been offered a five-year deal by the Reds, but is “likely” to turn it down in search of first-team football, according to the Liverpool Echo – which also claims Rangers and Nantes are keen on his signature.

Chirivella, 22, has been at Liverpool for almost seven years, having been snapped up from Valencia for just £2million in July 2013, but to date he has a relatively low 11 first-team appearances under his belt.

The Spaniard made his debut in September 2015 as an 18-year-old but subsequently went three years without another senior game for the Reds, though he picked up first-team experience at Go Ahead Eagles, Willem II and Extremadura on loan.

Chirivella has kicked on this season, coming on as a substitute in Liverpool’s League Cup wins over MK Dons and Arsenal before captaining the Reds in the quarter-final meeting with Aston Villa and also featuring against Everton and Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup.

Even though Jurgen Klopp would like Chirivella to remain at Liverpool and has been impressed with his progress – not to mention the desire to keep him in wake of the global health crisis’ expected knock-on effects on the football industry – the Reds are nonetheless bracing themselves for his departure, claims the Liverpool Echo.

Former Liverpool chief Spanish scout David Vizcaino was left stunned by Chirivella back in 2016, being quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: “Just talking about Pedro Chirivella gives me goosebumps.

“In England there would have to be 100 Pedro Chirivellas in order to revolutionise English football. Chirivella is football, he has intelligence, control, technique, personality. I expect great things from him.”

When asked by The Redmen TV in 2014 who he admired the most in the Liverpool dressing room, Chirivella replied: “It has to be Steven Gerrard. He’s won everything here and he’s the person I look up to.”

A very talented player who has the potential to become a star, who Klopp reportedly doesn’t want to lose, who idolises the Rangers manager and who could be available on a free – sounds like a perfect match for the Ibrox side.
