Rangers linked defender ‘knows nothing’ about apparent Ibrox interest

Rangers have been linked with a move for Argentine full-back Leonel Di Placido in recent weeks. The Scottish Sun reported that Steven Gerrard had the Lanus defender on his shortlist as a potential replacement for James Tavernier.

With the Premier League transfer window now shut, it seems that Tavernier is unlikely to be leaving Ibrox this summer but interest in Di Placido is still being rumoured.

However, as reported by The Scotsman, Gerrard stated that the idea of signing a new right-back was ‘total rubbish’.

Now the player himself has suggested he ’knows nothing’ of the transfer interest from Scotland. The defender told FOX Sports Argentina, as relayed by Fortaleza Granate on Twitter, that he was unaware of any interest from Glasgow.

This news will come as no surprise. Whilst it is very possible that there may be a fleeting interest or indeed a scouting document at Rangers on Di Placido, it would seem there is no current push to bring him to Ibrox.

Rangers have one of their star players and captain playing at right-back whilst Jon Flanagan and Matt Polster are more than capable back-up options.

Di Placido, who has been called up to the Argentine national squad on one occasion, does not look to be on his way to Ibrox anytime soon.
