Rangers should pounce on 34-goal talisman after current club offer update

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will enter the transfer market again this summer looking to ensure his squad is well equipped to challenge Celtic again next season.

The Gers have fallen short in their quest to topple the Hoops this season and Gerrard will hope to improve during 2019/20.

One area that could need replenishing is up front. Striker Alfredo Morelos could depart in the summer, whilst Kyle Lafferty hasn’t really set the league alight during his second stint.

That would leave just Jermain Defoe to carry the burden of scoring goals and reinforcements might be necessary.

Back in March, Ayr United striker, Lawrence Shankland was linked to both Rangers and Celtic, according to the Daily Star.

The 24-year-old has been in fine form this season smashing 34 goals and eight assists. Ayr chairman Lachlan Cameron has now told the Evening Times some news which should alert the Gers.

He has claimed that the club won’t stand in the way of Shankland if the chance to leave the club arises this summer.

The red hot talisman is out of contract during the summer and Rangers need to pounce. Not solely because of Celtic’s interest but it would certainly be a good start to the season, beating them to a player boasting such an impressive goal ratio.

For Shankland to learn his trade alongside a striker like Defoe can only be good for his career. He also wouldn’t break the bank in terms of salary, whilst he knows where the back of the net is.

Gerrard will hope to lure some stellar players to Ibrox this summer. Shankland doesn’t really tick that box but he does represent shrewd business for the Gers if they can pull a deal off.
