Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor pulled off some late heroics for Scotland to help them beat Israel on Tuesday and secure promotion in the Nations League.

Scotland narrowly edged past Israel 3-2 at Hampden Park, but shot-stopper McGregor pulled of a stunning late save from a volley to secure the victory.

The veteran 36-year-old has regained his spot at national level and also helped Scotland beat Albania 4-0 during the international break.

His form will come as no surprise to Rangers fans, who have seen him come to their rescue on countless occasions already this season at Ibrox and been one of their outstanding players.

McGregor re-joined the Gers in the summer and has to be considered Steven Gerrard’s best signing to date since his summer appointment.

The Scotland international has had no trouble readjusting to life back in a Rangers shirt and been one of the most consistent performers in the side.

He has kept nine clean sheets in his 23 appearances across all competitions and been a real boost in the Europa League group stages.

Rangers signings such as Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic have impressed, but the fact they snapped up McGregor on a free transfer is a remarkable piece of business.
