Rangers have allowed highly-rated midfielder Glenn Middleton to join Premiership rivals Hibernian on a season-long loan, according to the club’s official website.

The versatile attacker finished last season with five goals and five assists to his name but Steven Gerrard has now opted to loan him out.

Middleton was linked with a move to Doncaster Rovers earlier in the summer, according to the Daily Record, but Grant McCann’s move to take over Hull City scuppered that deal.

The 19-year-old has played 28 games for the Gers in total but will now look to hold down a regular place in Hibernian’s team during 2019/20.

Middleton will relish the chance to get some regular starts under his belt and signs for the club who were thumped 6-1 by Rangers at the weekend.

TBR Verdict – Perfect opportunity for Rangers starlet

Going to England would have been a decent move but the chance to play regularly in Rangers’ league will also aid his development.

If he excels at Hibs, Gerrard will be under no illusions as to what impact Middleton can have in the Scottish Premiership.

There is still hope that Middleton can force his way into the Gers team at some point in his career; right now, however, his priority must be to play football.

If he can do that and impress at Easter Road then Gerrard could hand him a Rangers reprieve next season.
