The agent of reported Rangers target George Maluleka has told Goal that the contract situation of his client is ‘delicate’, but wouldn’t rule out the prospect of an Ibrox switch.
Maluleka is a 30-year-old midfielder currently plying his trade at Kaizer Chiefs and SunSport have recently reported interest from the Scottish giants.
Sean Roberts is the player’s agent and he says that a proper conversation probably needs to be had early in 2020.
He told Goal: “It’s a delicate situation. Call me in the new year and we can have a proper conversation.
“At the moment George is happy at Kaizer Chiefs and obviously playing well and is a regular.
“I think we can sort of have a proper conversation in the new year.”
Maluleka has played 156 times for the South African-based team having signed from Supersport United
The combative midfielder would be an interesting signing for Rangers given that he has never played in Europe.
Gerrard will want to strengthen his team in January. The Gers are currently level on points with Celtic and he will want to ensure his squad is as strong as possible for the second half of the campaign.
TBR Verdict – Maluleka would be an intriguing addition to Rangers ranks
The man with five caps for South Africa would be an interesting one for Rangers.
He has never played outside of his homeland and making the leap to Europe in his thirties asks the question of why it has taken so long?
It’s the sort of signing that could go one of two ways and Rangers supporters will hope it becomes shrewd.
The agent’s comments do appear to hint that a move could well be on the cards. With the player’s contract running out in the summer, Rangers might be able to agree on a cut-price deal in January and as a result, lower the risk.
Gerrard’s signings since arriving at Rangers have largely been successful and supporters will surely trust his judgement if this one goes ahead.
