Rangers fans would like to see Nathan Patterson play against St Mirren

Rangers host St Mirren on Sunday for their second league game of the season – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have claimed they would like to see academy graduate Nathan Patterson start the match.

Steven Gerrard’s side kicked off the new 2020/21 league campaign with a 1-0 away victory against Aberdeen last weekend and are out to try stop Old Firm rivals Celtic winning the title for a 10th consecutive year.

The Gers were eliminated from the Europa League on Thursday in their defeat to German side Bayer Leverkusen, but their European efforts over the past 12 months shows the team are making progress.

A selection of Rangers supporters on social media have stated that Patterson should get an opportunity in defence against St Mirren.

The 18-year-old is a highly-rated right-back to come out of the Ibrox academy and has been around Gerrard’s main group since pre-season.

Despite being an extreme bright talent, it seems unlikely that the Scottish full-back is going to get many starts in the XI, as he’s competing against club captain James Tavernier for one position.

Patterson came off the bench against Leverkusen to earn some more valuable experience at the top level and the teenager should be pleased with any first-team opportunities he’s given.
