Rangers geared up for their Betfred Cup final meeting with Celtic by letting a 2-0 lead slip against third placed Aberdeen last night.

That meant they lost ground in the title race, as the Bhoys snatched a late win over Hamilton at home thanks to a Scott Brown goal.

Rangers’ defending was far from convincing at times, and that will have to change on Sunday if they are to scoop the first silverware of the season.

Connor Goldson was singled out as especially bad by some fans on Twitter, with many calling for Nikola Katic, 23, to replace him in the side ahead of the showpiece occasion.

Sunday’s match could have a ripple effect across the whole season, especially if Rangers compound a disappointing result and slipping two points back with a final loss.

That’s why Steven Gerrard has to get his team selection right and many supporters feel that must include Katic after a shambolic display of defending at Pittodrie last night.
