Rangers fans stunned by Jon Flanagan’s performance against Hearts

Jon Flanagan returned to the Rangers side as they eased past Craig Levein’s Hearts at Ibrox on Wednesday night – and many Rangers fans were stunned at how good he was.

The 26-year-old joined Rangers in the summer but had failed to make a single league appearance for the Gers in 2019. The last time he played in the Scottish Premiership was as an injury-time substitute in the 1-0 win over Celtic.

He has clocked up just 23 league and cup appearances for the Gers since joining the club last summer from English Championship side Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer.

But with Andy Halliday suspended after receiving a red card against Celtic on Sunday, and Borna Barisic injured after picking up a knock while on international duty with Croatia, Steven Gerrard opted to recall Flanagan.

The one-time England international looked as though he had been a regular in the side, judging by his display. he was assured, confident and arguably one of the best performers on the night.

Rangers fans reacted to his display as the Gers steamrollered Hearts thanks to goals from Jermain Defoe, Connor Goldson and Scott Arfield. Many were delighted by Flanagan, while some were rather surprised.
