A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to suggest that it is time that Steven Gerrard dropped Connor Goldson after his performance in the Gers’s win over Livingston at Ibrox.
The Light Blues secured the three points on Saturday. But they needed to produce a comeback after going 1-0 down during the second-half having conceded a penalty.
Goals from James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Brandon Barker ensured that Rangers remain within three points of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership. But there were some concerns to emerge from Saturday’s game.
Livi definitely asked plenty of questions of Rangers’s two centre-backs and seemed to cause them a few problems when running at them.
Time to drop Goldson?
And some of the Ibrox faithful have suggested that Goldson needs to be taken out of the team for a while as they are not convinced that he is anywhere near his best at the moment.
Goldson has been a real stalwart during Gerrard’s tenure at Rangers. The 26-year-old has made 67 starts in all competitions since moving to Scotland for around £3 million last summer (fee reported by the Daily Record). But some clearly believe that it is time to give Filip Helander a chance alongside Nikola Katic.
It has been suggested that Goldson is making too many errors, particularly when he is on the ball, and it is frustrating some supporters that he seems to have his place in the team set in stone.
Here is how some of the fans reacted to Goldson’s performance…
The defence proved last season that it is not up to the job. Get Helander and Edmondson in pronto. I can even accept 3 at the back with Katic. Goldson isn’t good enough.

Also a bold opinion but give Helander a chance and drop Goldson. Should’ve been dropped after his Old Firm performance anyway

Ojo was very poor today. Goldson too. Feyenoord will ruin us if we play like that again.

That was one of our worst performances ever, and we won. Halliday is one lucky guy. Katic was bad, Goldson 🤦🏼♂️
