Rangers fans react to the confirmed injury update on midfielder Ryan Jack

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Ryan Jack could be absent for the club’s next fixture – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have reacted negatively to the update.

The 28-year-old midfielder started during his side’s 4-0 victory against Aberdeen at the weekend in the league, but he could miss the upcoming game.

Gerrard’s side are now preparing to host Benfica at Ibrox on Thursday night in a Europa League match that will be vital in trying to qualify for the group stages.

Rangers recorded a 3-3 draw away to Portuguese giants Benfica in the previous meeting this season and the two clubs are currently top of Group D at the midway point.

The Gers boss has confirmed (official Twitter) that Jack is a “doubt” for the European fixture and his fitness is going to be assessed later on Wednesday.

It’s unclear on what type of injury blow the central midfielder has, but his absence would be a significant one as he’s usually a mainstay in Gerrard’s XI and has been impressive form so far this season.

The Scotland international helps knit everything together in the centre of the park as he sits in front of the back four, but fortunately there are plenty of midfield options in the squad that the manager can rely on.

A selection of Rangers supporters on social media have responded to the Jack news:
