Rangers defender James Tavernier is reportedly attracting interest from Premier League side Newcastle United – and some of the club’s supporters have responded to the speculation by claiming he won’t be leaving Ibrox.
The Scottish Sun reports that Newcastle scouts have been to watch the 28-year-old play in the Old Firm derby and Steve Bruce’s side have “stepped up” their chase for him.
It is explained that the Magpies could try tempt Rangers into selling their captain with a big-money offer, but they would prefer to keep him.
Tavernier, who was formerly on the books at St James’ Park as a youngster, could be offered a route back to English football in January.
But the right-back is currently a star player in Steven Gerrard’s team, where he is involved in a race for the Scottish Premiership title and is also in the Europa League knockout rounds.
He is attack-minded with three goals and 12 assists so far this season in 35 games across all competitions, while teammate Borna Barisic offers a similar threat on the opposite flank at left-back.

A selection of Rangers supporters on social media are adamant that they won’t lose Tavernier and feel he’s too important to let go.
