Rangers fans react to performance of Leon Balogun during Thursday win

Rangers secured a slender advantage heading into their second leg with Royal Antwerp with a last-gasp 4-3 victory. The name on supporters’ lips afterwards was that of Leon Balogun.

The Gers took the lead through Joe Aribo but goals from Felipe Avenatti and Lior Refaelov on the stroke of half-time sent the Belgian side in at the break with a lead.

Borna Barisic restored parity from the spot but just seven minutes later Martin Hongla put Antwerp back in front.

Ryan Kent equalised once again for the Gers before Barisic stepped up again from the spot to send Rangers into the next leg with a small advantage.

It was perhaps surprising that an attacking player didn’t earn more praise considering four goals were scored.

The talk on Twitter afterwards, however, was regarding the form of Balogun who looks to be growing into the Rangers team.

Balogun signed for the Teddy Bears after ending last season with crisis-club Wigan Athletic where he helped them to some good form.

A points deduction saw them relegated though and the 32-year-old made the switch to Rangers.

After last night’s game, supporters were thrilled with his performance and took to Twitter to suggest as much.

He moved to right-back when James Tavernier went off injured and his performance there delighted the fan base.

Here is what fans were saying about the £12,500-a-week defender.
