Rangers fans react to Connor Goldson’s League Cup display

A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to slam Connor Goldson’s performance during the Gers’s Scottish League Cup quarter-final win on Wednesday night.

Steven Gerrard’s side are into the last four of the competition, but it was not an easy night for the Light Blues. Glen Kamara’s deflected effort gave Rangers an early lead against Livingston, but they were unable to kill the game at any stage.

Livi caused plenty of problems, with Joe Aribo and Ryan Jack picking up head injuries in aerial challenges during the first-half. Aribo came off much, much worse and had to be substituted.

Goldson was also involved in a nasty incident when he was caught by Lyndon Dykes as he cleared the ball. The striker was booked, but replays revealed a challenge that some referees may have been tempted to produce a red card for.

Dykes was perhaps fortunate on that occasion. But there is no doubt that both Goldson and Filip Helander struggled to contain the striker.

It must be noted that Rangers have now kept three clean sheets in a row with the current centre-back pairing. But some of the Ibrox faithful clearly fear that Gerrard’s men are going to be punished sooner or later.

Time to drop Goldson?

And the finger is largely being pointed at Goldson. The £3 million signing (fee reported by Sky Sports) has been a stalwart for Gerrard, but some are very keen to see the centre-back dropped.

It appears that a handful of supporters believe that he has become complacent with Gerrard seemingly feeling that he is the player that the back four is built around.

Plenty of fans are frustrated by Gerrard’s continued faith in Goldson. And one supporter even suggested that it is no longer worthwhile commenting on the Englishman’s performance as his place in the starting lineup is set in stone.
