Rangers’ second string suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Celtic in the Glasgow Cup final on Tuesday night despite a brace from Glenn Middleton – and Rangers fans reacted to captain Cammy Palmer’s efforts.
Rangers will have come into the game in confident manner after beating Celtic 3-2 in the Youth Cup final last week. Graeme Murty’s side will have been hoping for a similar result this time out.
Murty fielded a strong side that included the likes of Middleton, Stephen Kelly and Andrew Dallas – who has been on loan at Morton but could play as it was only a development loan – but they found themselves 2-0 down at the break.

Goals from Jack Aitchison and Mikey Johnston gave the Hoops the lead. But Middleton’s class shone through, scoring twice in the space of nine minutes, equalising in the 86th minute with a 30-yard pile driver.
The drama was not over, though. Centre-back Robbie Deas netted in the fifth minute of injury time, smashing the ball past goalkeeper Kieran Wright. Despair for Rangers, but 18-year-old captain Palmer can hold his head high.
The Northern Ireland Under-19 international shone in the middle of the park, with his eye-catching stamina and intricate array of passing impressing many Rangers fans on Twitter.
