Rangers fans react to Barry Ferguson’s comments on Alfredo Morelos

Barry Ferguson has told PLZ Soccer that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos should have walked away during an altercation with Kilmarnock defender Kirk Broadfoot last time out – and Rangers fans are not happy.

Morelos, 22, scored an excellent equaliser to take his tally to 29 for the season. He turned Killie defender Stuart Findlay – who has just been called up by Scotland – inside out, before finishing well past Daniel Bachmann.

With Kilmarnock leading at half-time thanks to Conor McAleny’s opener, Rangers were under pressure. Frustrated, Morelos reacted to a nibble from ex-Rangers defender Broadfoot.

The defender stepped on Morelos’ ankle as both players were walking off the pitch at half-time. Morelos retaliated, pushing Broadfoot. Both players were booked, and Ferguson believes the Colombian should have walked away.

“I don’t think there’s much in it, it’s handbags,” Ferguson said. “Two bookings is sufficient for me. It’s that part of his game where his reputation goes before him. It must be a worry for Rangers.

“He’s come up with another excellent goal. Rangers need him. I don’t want it to come out of his game, I like that devilment about him. The bigger man walks away and he needs to realise that.”

Along with his 29 goals and 11 assists this season, Morelos has 15 yellow cards and four red cards. Discipline is obviously an area that needs to be improved in the HJK Helsinki striker’s game.

Rangers fans reacted to Ferguson’s comments on Morelos, disagreeing with their former captain. One fan even claimed that Ferguson is turning into ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton.
