A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to react to comments made by Vaclav Hladky – as reported by the Daily Record – in which the goalkeeper suggested that he has held talks with the Gers about a move to Ibrox.
Hladky has enjoyed a bizarre season. He plays for a St Mirren side that sit bottom of the Scottish Premiership table. However, the goals conceded column tells a completely different story.
Rangers and Celtic are the only teams to have conceded fewer goals than the Buddies. Hladky has only had to pick the ball out of his net 11 times in 11 games.
It appears that he may not be a St Mirren player for much longer however. The Daily Record reports that his contract expires at the end of the season. And he has suggested that he has held talks with Steven Gerrard’s men, before admitting that he has his sights set on a move elsewhere.
“Rangers are interested in me and some negotiations are under way. But playing in England is the big dream. The biggest dream is to play in the Premier League but that is a big jump,” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.
“I know I will need to make another step first on the way. I’m not crazy enough to think I can go from St Mirren directly to the English top division. Going to the Championship would be ideal for me. That is preferable to staying in Scotland.”
Interestingly, plenty of Rangers appear to be pleased that the club are keen on signing Hladky. They believe that he would be a very good signing, especially as it is not clear how long Allan McGregor will continue for.
There is some concern about two of the goalkeepers currently on Rangers’s books. Wes Foderingham has been McGregor’s understudy since the latter’s return to Ibrox. Some have speculated that interest in Hladky could mean that the Englishman will soon be on the way out of the club.
Meanwhile, some also believe that it could be a blow for Robby McCrorie. The youngster looks to have the potential to be a possible successor to McGregor when his gloves are hung up. But Hladky’s arrival would certainly throw a spanner in the works.
Here is what some of the Rangers fans made of the goalkeeper’s comments…
Tbf one of the best keepers I’ve seen at Ibrox in the last 3 or so years, up there with Kelly

Would like to see young Robbie mccrorie be the back up keeper next year , would be a good long term replacement for Mcgregor when the time comes

Good keeper, would be a solid replacement for Foderingham

Definitely a good keeper

Would be quite pleased if we signed Hladký to replace Foderingham, though I’m not sure how that would fit in with the long term plan for Robby McCrorie’s development.

Rangers in discussions with Vaclav Hladky must mean that Wes Foderingham will be departing when his contract expires. No doubt looking for first team football, a very good keeper but not on Alan McGregor’s level. Shame to lose such a strong understudy but wish him well if true.
