Rangers fans react on Twitter to surprise Olivier Giroud reports

A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to comment on surprise reports from L’Equipe suggesting that Steven Gerrard’s men are interested in signing Olivier Giroud from Chelsea.

It would be no surprise to see Giroud on the move in January. The Frenchman has struggled for game-time under Frank Lampard and his contract expires in the summer.

With Euro 2020 just around the corner, Giroud’s priority will surely be securing regular game-time. And recent reports have claimed that Rangers are interested in offering him a fresh challenge.

It must be noted that Gerrard has since played down the suggestion that the Gers want Giroud. He insisted, in comments reported by the Daily Record, that the reports were the first he had heard about any potential interest.

Interestingly, the reports appear to have divided some of the fans on social media. There are, of course, plenty who are not buying the idea of Giroud being on Rangers’s radar.

There are also some who do not believe that the Gers need Giroud that much. Spotrac reports that he earns £110,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge. Even with a significant pay-cut, he would be on a lot of money, and Rangers have two strikers who have scored 42 goals between them.

But there are some fans who believe that he could be a brilliant signing. Giroud has scored 78 Premier League goals during his career.

And it was noted by a couple of supporters that the Ibrox faithful were probably just as dismissive when rumours emerged suggesting that the Light Blues wanted Jermain Defoe at a similar time last year.
